Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens

Music has the capability to pull on my heartstrings unlike anything else. I remember hearing this song for the first time and having so many memories of the loved ones I’d lost and just losing it. I remember sobbing and sobbing and listening to it on repeat for a couple hours until I had no more tears.

So yeah, this song makes me sad.

There are a lot of songs out there that have a similar message (girl, I’m gonna get you drunk and we’re going to have sex), but none quite so blatant and offensive as this one. Don’t get me wrong, I occasionally enjoy music that completely objectifies women and has a legit bass line, but there’s just something about this song that really pisses me off. Maybe it’s the fact that it doesn’t imply but instead directly states that you should ‘blame it on the alcohol’ and not the dude if you have unwanted sex when you’re drunk. Because everyone knows it’s not rape if you’re both drunk. 

I don’t have a favorite song. I listen to so much music and I love so much music that there is no way for me to choose just one song.
